Carriageworks Young Theatre Makers

Interested in joining CYTM and finding out more? Come along to our taster session/ informal audition on Tuesday 16th July 6pm-7.30pm. Please contact Ruth Cooper if you would like further information.

Build drama skills and confidence by creating and performing in three original plays each year in our high-profile professional theatre.

CYTM develops young people’s skills as actors, writers and directors.

The shows have been a part of Light Night Leeds, Holocaust Memorial Day, and Carriageworks Theatre’s 10th birthday celebrations.

Led by professional theatre director, Ruth Cooper, the members do more than just learn lines and blocking – they learn to portray their own lives, thoughts and imaginations on stage.

In creating a new play, CYTM work as an ensemble, developing teamwork and performance skills and increasing their knowledge of working in live theatre. They form a supportive group in which their creativity is nurtured and they are offered a genuine platform for their ideas.

"I really enjoyed watching Nothing Stays the Same and particularly the way, like other CYTM shows, the performance was clearly developed with the young actors involvement and stemmed from their own ideas. Ruth manages to get the balance right between a genuine interest in what young people have to say and a professional script and production that they feel proud to be part of."

CYTM Groups A (10yrs-14yrs) and B (15yrs-19yrs) meet every Saturday during term time and each group creates three original performances over the course of a year.
