Strap yourself in for this weekend intensive Beginners Improvisation Comedy Course brought to you by Leeds’ original improvisation group “The Discount Comedy Checkout.” Running for over 12 years The DCC are the perfect instructors to coach and introduce comedy improvisation to you in these special weekend intensives.


The Discount Comedy Checkout have become one of the biggest improv groups in the UK with constant shows throughout the years in a variety of venues. Now we bring our knowledge to you with our carefully constructed courses. Taught by members of the troupe you will learn how to bring improvisation comedy to the stage and perform in your first improvisation showcase for all your invited family and friends to see.  Perfect for total beginners or those with some experience, this course is ideal to boost confidence and you'll be amazed at just how quickly your skills will develop. Improv comedy really does unlock the imaginations potential and soon you’ll be working with your group to create unique and hilarious comedy scenes in the heat of the moment! 


We attract a wealth of different people doing the courses for a variety of different reasons, from plain simple confidence boosting to just trying something different. Whatever your reason - you are guaranteed to have a fun filled enjoyable weekend and meet lots of new people. Previous students have gone on to form their own shows, their own improve groups, and gone on to test themselves in other ways they thought would never be possible! 

 

The course will take place at the Carriageworks Theatre on Saturday 21st September - Sunday 22nd September from 10am - 4pm. The final showcase for friends and family is on Sunday 22nd September from 5-6pm.

FAQ's

 

The most common question we get asked is – Do I have to be funny?

The simple answer is to this is “no!”
We will guide you through step by step. Trust us - we’ve been doing this a long time.

Are there any age restrictions?

It’s over 18’s only.


Is lunch included?
Lunch is not included, however we encourage you to bring a packed lunch with you as we will have a 30 min lunch break.


Will I get to perform?
Yes! This is all about you - please wear comfortable clothes to practice and perform in. You will perform a one hour show with other group members at the end of the Sunday session where you can invite friends and family to watch.


Who teaches the course?
Members of the Discount Comedy Checkout will teach the course. This can vary between sessions.


Do you allow people to watch or drop-in?
Only course sign ups can come into the sessions however you have options within the course - if you do not want to attempt an exercise or final showcase you don't have to. Friends and family are allowed to attend the show case.


I have zero experience. Will I be ok?
Yes, this course is for you. We have had many previous students who have never done anything like his before.
