Room 1: Carriageworks Theatre
We’ve all met someone we’d think of as the class clown or heard the phrase ‘clowning around’, but what is clowning as a performance art? Who on earth is your clown guide? And how is clowning in theatre different to the white face painted, neon-wigged circus clown?
This workshop will introduce you to the principles of theatrical clowning and to the ‘trickster’, the archetype of one who breaks societal norms. Through games, simple exercises and working with the smallest mask in the world - the red nose - you will learn ways to access your clown state and to joyfully share your inner idiot.
Suitable for beginners and experienced performers
