Main Info

These two short, one-act plays are being presented on the same bill:

STAKE-OUT by Simon Brett

Detective Sergeant Craig Downs, a meticulous, old fashioned policeman approaching retirement is on a stake-out to catch the Kilburn Killer, with WPC Wainwright in place as bait. A change to the roster and he is accompanied by Hayley Poulston. As they share their findings with each other things are not quite what they seem. Will they catch the Kilburn Killer before WPC Wainwright is the next victim?

Simon Brett (OBE) is an established crime writer and TV and Radio producer. He is well known for BBC Radio 4 show No Commitments and the Charles Paris detective novels which were turned into a series on BBC Radio 2.

THE END by Neil Rathmell

The End has an air of Pinter’s The Birthday Party with an underworld edge. James, an influential social historian well known for his strong opposition to all forms of religion, finds himself at a bed and breakfast with no memory of how he got there. Despite the message his hosts are trying to tell him, he is convinced it is a sick game set up by some of his friends, or possibly his critics. Where is he? How did he get there? What’s happening after breakfast? What’s so special about eggs?

Neil Rathmell is member of Leeds Arts Centre and a successful author and playwright.

Rehearsed entirely in lockdown and recorded live and COVID safe on the Carriageworks stage, this season has been created with the astonishing commitment, talent and drive of Leeds Community Arts Network, who are committed to keeping the arts alive for everyone.

Enjoy this Performance and the entire season safe and sound in the comfort of your own home. This is extraordinary theatre created by extraordinary people in extraordinary times.
