Main Info

Hinging on the theft of an enormous diamond from an Indian shrine, this riveting drama features a deadly curse, the innovative Sergeant Cuff, the hilarious house steward Gabriel Betteredge, a lovesick housemaid and a mysterious band of Indian jugglers.

Wilkie Collins’ spellbinding tale of romance, theft and murder inspired a hugely popular genre – the detective mystery. The novel was originally serialised in 1868 in Charles Dickens’ periodical All the Year Round. T S Eliot called it ‘the first and the best of modern English detective novels’. It has been adapted many times for television, most recently in 2016 for the BBC. This stage adaptation is by Robert Kauzlaric.

This production is produced by Leeds Arts Centre, a Community Arts Group.
